Formula 1 organizers confirmed last night that the Turkish Grand Prix will replace the Canadian Grand Prix in the 2021 race calendar because of restrictions on international travel that are in place in Canada because of COVID-19.
The Canadian Grand Prix that had been scheduled for 2020 was also canceled because of COVID-19.
The Turkish Grand Prix will be run 11-13 June at the Istanbul Park course.
Regarding the Canadian Grand Prix, Formula 1 organizers said in a statement:
“We are grateful for the efforts of the promoter and the authorities in Canada, Quebec and Montreal in the past few weeks to try and make the race happen and we are pleased to announce a two-year extension to our partnership with the Canadian Grand Prix. We will work with the promoter to ensure those with tickets from 2020 & 2021 races get the options of a refund or to transfer their tickets to next year’s race and look forward to racing in Canada in 2022.”
