Syrian government says the country is experiencing "a modicum of stability."
Prior to 2011 tourism was an important industry in Syria, with visitors coming from around the world to view Roman-era ruins and ancient cities.
But now after 6 years of war much of those attractions has been reduced to rubble.
US State Department suspended consular operations in Syria in February 2012. Current travel advisory is worst-case DO NOT TRAVEL.
Syrian tourism minister is in an unenviable situation. Too bad.
