Unfortunately border reopening comes too late for the summer tourist season
Canadian media are reporting today that PM Justin Trudeau will by the end of the week have signed off on changes to the country's COVID-19 travel restrictions, including:
- Elimination of vaccine requirement for inbound travelers
- End of random testing at airports
- Use of ArriveCan app no longer required
Current US policy requires that entering Canadians show proof of vaccination, but for the most part this isn't being enforced by US CBP.
The US-Canada border was closed in March 2020 as COVID-19 began to spread. In August 2022, cross-border traffic was still down 42%.
