Greyhound Canada announced this week that it is permanently ending Canadian intercity service.
In a published statement, Greyhound Canada SVP Stuart Kendrick said:
“We deeply regret the impact this has on our staff and our customers, as well as the communities we have had the privilege of serving for many years. A full year without revenue has unfortunately made it impossible to continue operations. Thank you to our dedicated staff for their commitment and service, and to our customers for choosing Greyhound Canada during better times."
Company officials blame a combination of industry deregulation, subsidized competition, lack of government subsidies and a 95% reduction in ridership due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the shutdown.
Customers holding tickets for future dates or unexpired Canadian travel vouchers may request a refund.
Once the US-Canada land border reopens, Greyhound Lines, Inc (USA) will continue to operate cross-border services on these routes:
- Toronto - NYC
- Toronto - Buffalo
- Montreal - NYC
- Montreal - Boston
- Vancouver - Seattle
