Bay Ferries Ltd has announced plans to operate The Cat ferry between Bar Harbor, Maine and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia 19 May through 10 October 2022.
Four trips a week are planned initially, to be increased to daily sailings sometime in June to Labor Day, then six per week until season's end.
The Cat last ran Maine to Nova Scotia between Portland and Yarmouth in 2018. For 2019, the Maine terminus was moved to Bar Harbor, but construction delays and government red tape caused the season to be canceled.
The 2020 and 2021 seasons were canceled because of COVID-19.
But throughout this saga, the Province of Nova Scotia has - controversially - continued to subsidize the ferry service because of its benefit (when running) to NS tourism.
A promotion on the Bay Ferries website offers a $205 fare discount for bookings made by 31 March for one-way or round-trip sailings in the 2022 season for one "standard vehicle" plus driver.
