In a 21 June op-ed piece for the Portland Press Herald, CruiseMaine Director Sarah Flink responded to recent news stories critical of the cruise-ship industry's impact on Maine ports.
Ms. Flink wrote, in part:
"Many of our ports would love to see more cruise ships come into their waters and fill their shops and restaurants, so we’ll happily promote these towns to the cruise lines that match their infrastructure and activity profile. The needs of some other member ports have shifted, and so we have adapted our mission to highlight sustainable cruise ship tourism in communities that want it."
CruiseMaine reports to the Maine Office of Tourism, the Maine Port Authority and port-management consultants Soli DG.
Taking orders from 3 bosses is an unenviable situation. We'll be watching to see how that goes.
