In a survey of its 435K Instagram followers, online travel guide Big Seven Travel ranked the New England states (along with the other 44) on "friendliness".
Results:

Vermont #34 "Locals will go out of their way to help visitors to the area"
Connecticut #38 "
Rhode Island #41 "You won’t exactly be greeted with a smile from the local cashier"
New Hampshire #44 “Proudness can often be mistaken for arrogance towards outsiders"
Massachusetts #47 “Locals aren’t exactly rude, per se, but the overall indifference towards strangers can take its toll”
Minnesota was voted friendliest state overall for its "locals who go the extra mile to welcome tourists."
Predictably, this population of Instagrammers voted New York to be the least friendly of the 50 US states: "Don’t dawdle on the sidewalk or hold up traffic taking Instagram shots…"
