The $7500 enterprise marketing grant from the Maine Office of Tourism will be used by the University of Maine at Presque Isle to create a promotional video, new photography, an interactive website and a brochure as well as running advertising on social media.
The 1:93,000,000-scale UMPI model extends for about 100 miles along US Route 1 from Presque Isle to Topsfield. The largest planet model - Saturn, because of its rings - measures about 5 feet in its largest dimension. Most planet models are visible from the road.
The solar system model, being entirely outdoors and spread over a large area, is accessible by visitors even under COVID-19 travel and gathering restrictions.
Aroostook County Tourism, Northern Maine Development Commission, Aroostook Partnership, the Greater Houlton Chamber and the Central Aroostook Chamber will be partnering with UMPI on the project.
The new brochure will be distributed to all local Maine Chambers, and placed in Maine visitor centers and kiosks.
