Port Share Promise pilot program launched in Portland
CruiseMaine and Cruise Portland this week launched a 5-week pilot of a Port Share Promise program intended to traffic reduce congestion and increase pedestrian safety when cruise ships visit the city. A total of 49 ships carrying 100,000 passengers are expected to land passengers in Portland during this period.
Program will feature a community hotline, shuttles to take cruise passengers to various parts of the city, and traffic safety personnel stationed at critical waterfront crosswalks.
Inspiration for this program was a similar one running in Juneau, Alaska.
Cruise ships bring about $3M in business to the city annually.
