Visits to Maine down 9% in summer 2024
The Maine Office of Tourism reports that tourist visits to Maine in May-August 2024 were down 9%, and tourism spend down 0.4%, from the same months in 2023. Diminishment of pent-up demand due to COVID is blamed.
Also vs. 2023, fewer visitors stayed with family/friends or in seasonal homes, and average length of stay was shorter.
But October visitation is growing, and visitor satisfaction is strong, with 94% of survey respondents saying they plan to visit again.
