Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu have announced that Athens and Boston are about to become "Sister Cities."

Mr. Bakoyannis is visiting Boston on the occasion of the 126th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday 18 April 2022.

At each running of the Marathon the City of Athens donates 4 gilded wreaths to be awarded to the winners of the 4 race classes. This year, Mr. Bakoyannis personally delivered and awarded the wreaths.

For the first time in more than 2 decades, 2022 Boston and Athens will be linked by nonstop air service, which Delta Airlines has announced it will begin flying 3 times a week for summer 2022 beginning 29 May. The Sister Cities agreement will incorporate initiatives that promote Athens as a tourist destination for Bostonians.
