The original $1.1B BCEC expansion plan was put on hold by Gov. Charlie Baker in 2015 because of changes in the convention and tradeshow industries. Also, plans for a 1200-room hotel across Summer Street from the BCEC on a parcel of land owned by Massport has been scaled down to a smaller hotel. The Boston CVB continues to advocate for the BCEC expansion and larger hotel. But current plans are for a consultant's report to be commissioned before going further with expansion.
