Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh said in a statement on Friday that to limit any further spread of COVID-19 "parades and festivals will not take place in the City of Boston this summer, up to and including Labor Day...No event should be planned that would involve more than 10 people gathering or that could draw a crowd of any size."
Among other things, that means no Boston team sports at any level from sandlot to pro.
After being postponed from its normal Patriots Day date in April, the 2020 Boston Marathon - which draws tens of thousands of runners from around the world and half a million spectators - remains scheduled for 14 September. Expect an update on that sometime in June.
MA Gov. Charlie Baker hasn't yet put large events on hold statewide, but with Mayor Walsh committed, that could come soon.
