Tax would be tiered according to number of rooms being rented.
Full-time landlords renting 6 or more units would be taxed at 8%.
The bill also provides for the State to maintain a database of rental units, in which landlords would have to pay for listings.
Towns and cities would be free to assess their own local taxes or fees.
The bill passed the House by a 117 to 30 vote.
I see no mention of any kind of health or safety requirements or inspections, or how violators would be identified, fined, etc.
This piece of legislation sounds good, but may be toothless.
