Mass.gov 15 September 2016

Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reports that the State's overall unemployment rate dropped from 4.1% in July to 3.9% in August 2016.

And a total of 5900 jobs were added in August, of which 2200 were in the Leisure and Hospitality industries, which saw more gains than any other industry. A total of 61,000 jobs, including 10,400 Leisure and Hospitality jobs, have been added in 2016 YTD..

National unemployment rate for August was 4.9%

It's not surprising that Leisure and Hospitality jobs were added in August - tourist season - but that figure of 10K+ added year to date is very encouraging for the Massachusetts year-round tourism industry.

And the fact that 61,000 more people are working and earning $$$ in Massachusetts is great news for tourism businesses in the other New England states, and in eastern Canada, where Massachusetts is probably the #1 source market.
