In the interest of tourism, which is an important industry in NH, the NH State Senate on Thursday voted 'ought to pass' on SB 249 which would prohibit municipalities from using zoning ordinances to effectively ban short-term rentals.
Under SB 249, towns would still be able to require fee-based registration and inspection of short-term rentals, and to regulate parking, noise, health, sanitation and safety as they do now.
Opponents have voiced concerns about a "long-term housing crisis" and the potential for proliferation of short-term rentals to aggravate that situation.
SB 249 will next go to the House for hearings.
