The Block Island Times reports that an informal survey taken by Tourism Council Director Jessica Willi gives 2018 YTD mixed reviews.
Ballard's Inn owner and Tourism Council VP Steve Filippi said:
"Our costs rise three to six percent...Our goal is five to 10 percent growth each year. Flat to me is a bad year.”
But Willi doesn't believe 5-10% annual growth is realistic for the island as a whole.
And so far in 2018, tax revenues available for funding the Tourism Council fall short of their budgeted spend.
Block Island's top markets in 2018 have been Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania.
