RI Gov. Gina Raimondo has announced the following 6 metrics to be used to determine when the state is ready to be reopened for business following the COVID-19 pandemic:
Those are pretty tough conditions. And they don't directly address the issue of travel/tourism.
Currently RI is among states with the most stringent restrictions on inbound travelers:
- All out-of-state passenger vehicles entering RI at the southern border with CT must stop at a state information center, and if planning to stay for any length of time, travelers must provide contact information and self-quarantine for 14 days.
- Anyone entering RI for non-work-related reasons must self-quarantine for 14 days.
You can see from the map above why RI has a particular problem with inbound travel. Note the State's location with respect to COVID-19 hotspot NYC, which is connected to all of New England by the I95 highway system, through CT and RI to MA and beyond.
I'm not looking for RI to be among the earliest-reopening states. But things could change. Stay tuned for updates.
