Proponents in the VT Senate Finance Committee say the tax increase will raise about an incremental $16M/year - most paid by out-of-staters - which could be used to clean up Lake Champlain and other water-quality issues.

Opponents - including the Vermont Chamber and Gov. Phil Scott - say the tax hike could adversely affect tourism, especially things like group tours.
