Canadian Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Bill Blair announced yesterday that the US-Canada border will remain closed to Americans until at least 21 July because of COVID-19 concerns.
PM Justin Trudeau - currently quarantining after traveling to the G7 summit in the UK - said the continued closure may be "frustrating" to some, but his aim is to "keep Canadians safe." Trudeau has set goals of 75% of Canadians having received one shot and at least 20% fully vaccinated "before we can start loosening things up."
Per Canadian government source Infobase Canada, as of noon yesterday 64.23% of the total population had received at least one dose, and 12.82% are fully vaccinated.
So at 16 months into the border closure, Canada is now at 64% of Mr. Trudeau's vaccination goal. It looks like the US-CA border is going to remain closed for a very long time.
The Canadian numbers will be updated next Friday 25 June.
