International visitors have spent $84.7B in USA in 2023 YTD
The US International Trade Administration reports that visitors spent in May 2023:
- $9.7B on food, lodging, recreation, gifts, entertainment and local transportation - up 34% from May 2022
- $3.2B on international airfares paid to US carriers - up 30%
- $4.7B on medical tourism, education and short-term-worker expenses - up 10%
May 2023 saw the highest level of monthly visitor spending since the onset of COVID-19 in February 2020.
Americans traveling abroad spent $17.0B in May, for a balance of trade surplus of $530M.
