Maine Governor Janet Mills announced yesterday her plan for the initial reopening of businesses in 12 "rural" counties: that is, all but Androscoggin, Cumberland, Penobscot and York.
Summary:
- Retail stores can open Monday 11 May with added health/safety precautions including restricting numbers of customers in stores.
- Fitness and exercise gyms can open 11 May for outdoor classes of 10 or fewer people, or for 1:1 indoor personal training.
- Restaurants can open on Monday 18 May with added health/safety precautions including physically distancing customers and ensuring employees follow enhanced hygiene and sanitation practices.
- Remote campsites and sporting camps can open with public health safeguards only to Maine residents or persons who have completed 14-day quarantine on 18 May.
Maine DECD has published health and safety guidelines for stores and restaurants here.
DECD is expected to publish guidelines for sporting camps next week.
Tentatively, stores and restaurants in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Penobscot and York Counties will be able to open 1 June.
Note that for persons entering or re-entering the state from outside Maine, the 14-day quarantine requirement still applies until further notice, and all other lodging places remain closed to all but essential workers.
