Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer's FY 2020 budget includes $31M for Pure Michigan, down 14% from $36M in 2019.
Analysis of 2016 Pure Michigan numbers by tourism researchers Longwoods International found that each dollar spent on Pure Michigan advertising in 2016 produced $8.33 in incremental tax revenues. Understandably, legislators whose districts depend heavily on tourism for jobs and taxes oppose the cut.
The Legislature has until 1 October to act on the Governor's budget. Stay tuned.
