Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's final FY 2020 budget included no funding for the Pure Michigan tourism marketing campaign.
But at its 22 October 2019 meeting the Michigan Strategic Fund board voted to use unspent funds to make a $667,500 payment to the McCann agency to keep the Pure Michigan campaign running through 31 December; also a $73,100 payment to the Weber Shandwick agency for PR and social-media marketing from now until the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) takes over that work.
Pure Michigan will need new funding to stay in operation in 2020.
Will they get it? Stay tuned.
