The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday that in September 2019 the US added 136,000 nonfarm jobs and the unemployment rate declined by 0.2% to a 50-year low of 3.5%.
Most job gains were in health care and professional and business services.
Leisure and hospitality employment remained essentially flat, but the transportation sector added 11,000 jobs.
Following release of the BLS report, stocks opened higher, with the Dow up nearly 150 points.
