Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has confirmed that the US-Canada land border closure which has been in effect since March 2020 will be extended until at least 21 June 2021 - and furthermore that "over 75% of people need to be vaccinated for us to start loosening things in Canada."
As of now, about 46% of Canadians have received one COVID-19 vaccine shot, 4% 2 doses.
About 60% of Americans have received at least one vaccination, and 37% have received both shots.
However: this week a "highly placed US CBP official" has been quoted as saying the US will unilaterally reopen the border on 22 June. This would mean that Canadians would be able to cross into the US, but might face some difficulties in returning to Canada.
Will that happen? Stay tuned.
