In a blow to Canadian tourism - the US being by far the country's #1 international source market - the US CDC this week raised its COVID-19 health advisory level for Canada to Level 4: Very High.
Per "Key Information for Travelers to Canada" on CDC.gov:
- Avoid travel to Canada.
- If you must travel to Canada, make sure you are fully vaccinated before you travel.
- Because of the current situation in Canada, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants.
Only in November 2021 did the US raise restrictions on its land border with Canada which had been in place since March 2020.
Around 80 other countries - including top US traveler destinations like the UK, France and Italy - are also currently at Level 4.
So far, the only reaction we've seen from Canada is the terse statement by a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman that "We are aware of the latest CDC advice."
