Governors of three US states on the west coast - California, Oregon and Washington - and seven on the east coast - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Massachusetts - have agreed to coordinate plans for reopening for business post-COVID-19, independently from the Trump Administration.
CA Gov. Gavin Newsome will lead the west-coast effort, NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo the east-coast.
Except for MA Gov. Charlie Baker, all the governors involved are Democrats.
President Donald Trump has said at different times that (1) any decision on reopening the US economy is his to make, but (2) he'd prefer to have the governors make the decision.
In aggregate, these 10 states account for more than one-third of total US economic activity.
And of the 10, those most dependent on tourism are:
- New York: #8 of 50 states
- California: #10
- Massachusetts: #11
