On Friday the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that US nonfarm payroll employment increased by 312,000 in December, with strongest job growth in health care, food service and drinking places (41K jobs added), construction, manufacturing and retail.
Unemployment rate rose by 0.2 to 3.9% - vs. 4.2% in December 2017 - as 839,000 people voluntarily left their jobs.
Average workweek was 34.5 hours, and average hourly earnings rose $0.11 to $27.48.
