Survey results released by UK-based medical travel insurance provider Get Going Insurance finds that Chinese, American and German travelers rank #1, #2, and #3 in spending on travel.
Top destinations for Chinese travelers are Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan - hence the low average airmiles traveled. (See chart above.)
It's surprising to see Americans ranked #2 in travel spend, as only 42% of them have a passport. Top destinations for Americans are Mexico and Canada.
Germans, the biggest-spending European travelers, prefer European destinations: Austria, France and Spain.
Canadians mostly visit the USA, and fly the most airmiles per person: 632 in a year.
