India's Bureau of Immigration has announced that beginning today 15 November 2021, the country is once again open to individual foreign nationals for tourism purposes...except that, for reasons of "lack of mutual travel recognition," citizens of several countries are excluded from eligibility for India's e-visa.
Citizens of the following countries may not avail themselves of the Indian e-visa:
- Hong Kong
- China
- Macau
- Malaysia
- Indonesia
- Iran
- Saudi Arabia
- UK
- Canada
Citizens of the US and 155 other countries have access to the e-visa.
Persons eligible for India's e-visa can apply and pay for a visa online, and receive by e-mail an electronic Travel Authorization which they can print and present at an Immigration Check Post to have the e-visa stamped on their passport.
However, both regular tourist visas and e-visas issued prior to 6 October 2021 remain suspended.
