Candidates who responded to the poll come from all parts of the political spectrum
Their objection is essentially that the referendum process has been used for one individual's financial gain.
The November referendum question as written would allow only gambling entrepreneur Shawn Scott to apply for a permit to build a casino somewhere in York County.
The Legislature is investigating the fundraising campaign run by Scott's sister Lisa which raised over $4M to get enough signatures to put the referendum question on the ballot.
Do we ned a casino in York County? On balance, would Maine tourism and the people of Maine benefit from this? I don't think so.
