This visitor center exists primarily to welcome visitors to Maine and the USA from Canada, but has been closed for 6 years because both MDOT and the Town of Houlton have found it to be too costly to operate. And as it now belongs to the town, the property produces no real-estate tax revenue.
The 2000sf building and 8 acres are listed at $500K. The town wants to find a buyer who will agree to continue to operate 900sf of the building as a visitor center. About $43K/year from various public sources is available as operating money.
Sounds like an opportunity for some enterprising entrepreneur.
