Organizers Failte Ireland have announced the cancellation of major Irish travel trade show and marketplace Meitheal 2020 which had been scheduled to be held 25 March:
"Following a review of the numbers of buyers attending Meitheal 2020 and the available appointments for our industry to engage with these buyers, the difficult decision to cancel Meitheal 2020 has been taken.
"During these uncertain times we have been monitoring the challenges around the COVID-19 virus and preparing to make a decision on health grounds over the coming days. However with a significant number of available appointments now cancelled due to buyer cancellations and further cancellations extremely likely in the coming days, the only realistic decision open to us is to cancel Meitheal 2020."
Meitheal is Ireland's largest Annual Global Travel Trade Fair. More than 300 overseas tour operators from 20 countries had been expected to attend to meet with Irish tourism suppliers.
