FL Gov. Ron DeSantis
On Wednesday last week, FL Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law legislation that reauthorizes statewide tourist board Visit Florida until 2023.
Florida Senate Bill 362 - which would have reauthorized Visit Florida until October 2028 - was modified in the House to extend authorization to October 2023.
The agency is budgeted at $50M for the current fiscal year, but any further budget allocations will have to be worked out in future legislative sessions.
The COVID-19 pandemic - which is having devastating effect on cruise-ship visits and amusement parks - is likely the factor that tipped Florida leaders in favor of extending Visit Florida's franchise.
