A new report from Tourism Economics suggests inbound visitation to the USA from China could be down by as much as 28% in 2021 vs. 2019.
American, Delta and United have suspended all flights between China and the USA because of COVID-19 travel restrictions.
And a survey by Dragon Trail International finds that "Friendliness to Chinese travelers" is currently the #1 factor influencing choice of destinations by Chinese outbound travelers:
And more than 80% of respondents to this survey rated the USA as UNSAFE.
That result likely reflects the attitude of the Chinese government toward the USA because of trade tensions and the "Huawei ban," as well as media reports of violence toward Asians in the USA by persons who blame the Chinese for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Is the USA going to have to write off China - which in 2019 was projected to be by 2020 the #2 US international market behind only the UK - for 2021?
