Canada and the US this week once again extended closure of the land border between the 2 countries, to at least 21 May 2021.
The border has been closed to non-essential travel since March 2020.
Travelers arriving in Canada via air from the US will continue to be subject to COVID-19 testing and 3-day hotel quarantining.
US DHS said that it's "engaged in discussions" with Canadian officials about easing travel restrictions as health conditions improve. But Canadian officials have recently said it's too soon to hold any kind of serious discussions about reopening the border.
Incidence of COVID-19 is higher in the US, but Canada has been slow to roll out vaccinations and is now seeing a third wave of the pandemic that's forcing businesses and schools to close once again.
Closure of the border has had tremendous adverse impact on the economies of nearby communities on both sides, and on the tourism industries of both Canada and the US.
