Chief EU Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier said last week that the EU "will never accept" a "backstop" mechanism re the Ireland-NI border proposed by the UK because it includes an end-date of 2021, with no provision beyond that. And that the EU will not be intimidated by the UK's attempts to blame lack of progress on Brexit on the EU.
