Government of Ireland

The Government of Ireland confirmed today that international travel to and from Ireland can resume as of 19 July 2021 for those who are eligible under the EU Digital Green Certificate System.

Note that although it's the stated intent of the Irish Cabinet to permit only fully-vaccinated individuals to travel in and out of Ireland, per the ETIAS US website the European Commission has decided that under its non-discrimination policy, all travelers - including Americans - will be able to benefit from the Green Certificate "whether they have been vaccinated or not." (What ??)

In the meantime:

  • Hotels can reopen 2 June.
  • Outdoor service at restaurants and pubs can resume 7 June, and cinemas and gyms can reopen.
  • Indoor pub and restaurant service can resume 5 July.
  • Spectators will be permitted at some sporting events and concerts in June and July.

Earlier today, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said Ireland is "not in a position" to restore the Common Travel Area just yet following advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team that there are real concerns about the prevalence of the Indian variant of COVID-19 in Great Britain.

Yesterday, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said that he expects Ireland not to meet its 30 June vaccination target of 80% of adults having received one dose and 55% having received both. Supply issues with the Johnson & Johnson and Astra Zeneca vaccines are blamed for the shortfall.
