The European Commission has launched the "DiscoverEU" program which will allow 15,000 18-yhear-old EU citizens to travel free for 1 to 30 days - primarily by rail, but also by bus or ferry - around the EU in the summer of 2018.
Per EU Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Commissioner Tibor Navracsics, the purpose of the program is to instill in participants a sense of European connectedness
"Education is not only about what we learn in the classroom, but what we discover about the cultures and traditions of our fellow Europeans.”
"DiscoverEU Ambassadors" (i.e., the participants) are invited to report on their travel experiences via social media, or by making presentations to their schools or communities.
