International professional football (soccer) sanctioning body FIFA and its European continental confederation UEFA have announced the following steps to be taken immediately in response to Russia's aggression in Ukraine:
- All Russian club and national representative football teams are suspended from FIFA and UEFA competitions until further notice.
- The UEFA men's Champions League Final match scheduled for 28 May 2022 will be moved from St. Petersburg to Stade-de-France in Saint-Denis.
- FIFA/UEFA sponsorship deal with Gazprom - the world's largest natural-gas company, majority-owned by the Government of Russia - is ended across all competitions including UEFA Euro 2024.
The UEFA Executive Committee expressed its thanks and appreciation to French President Emmanuel Macron for his support of the move of the 2022 Final match to France on short notice.
