Program to encourage tourism businesses to operate 12 months is part of the new Greece Development Plan.
Initiative may include:
- Establishment of special tourism zones for year-round business development in medical tourism, MICE, golf and senior tourism
- Incentives to increase hotel capacity
- Training and education programs
- Incentives for tourism investment
- Agritourism
- Transition to digital
The current (third) Greek bailout program ending this month requires the country to produce a budget surplus of 3.5% of GDP, resulting in higher taxes (including 24% VAT) and plummeting investment and consumption.
Is the new tourism initiative doable under these conditions?
Stay tuned.
