Ryanair has announced that for winter 2020/21 (November 2020 - March 2021) it will reduce capacity to 40% of winter 2019 level, close bases in Cork, Shannon and Toulouse, and significantly reduce numbers of aircraft based in Belgium, Germany, Spain, Portugal and Austria.
In a media release, the airline blamed "increased flight restrictions imposed by EU Govts" in response to te COVID-19 pandemic for the service cuts, and said that it expects FY21 traffic to fall to approximately 38M pax.
Cork Airport's Managing Director Niall McCarthy said that his facility is "looking at a 95% plus reduction in traffic levels for this coming winter compared to last year."
