In a bid to attract tourists and prop up the local economy - which has suffered terribly during the COVID-19 pandemic - the Departments of Charente and Charente-Maritime in western France plan to give away €1M in €100 vouchers to visitors this summer.
To be eligible for a voucher, tourists - international or domestic - must stay in the region for at least 2 nights, eat at a traditional restaurant, and visit one of the area's attractions.
Having fulfilled those requirements, tourists can upload their receipts to the Infiniment-Charentes website for a €100 refund.
Organizers hope the campaign will inject between €3 and €15 into the local economy, supporting 5000 businesses and 16,700 jobs.
