Taking a risky gamble that his Tory party will win a parliamentary majority that will enable him to push through his plan to withdraw the UK from the EU, PM Boris Johnson yesterday succeeded in winning backing for a general election on 12 December, by a House of Commons vote of 438 to 20.
A similar move in 2017 by Johnson's predecessor Theresa May resulted in a reduced Tory majority and, ultimately, Ms. May's resignation.
Meanwhile, back in Brussels, in order to avoid the UK crashing out in a no-deal Brexit this Thursday as scheduled the EU has granted the UK a 3-month extension of the Brexit deadline date to 31 January 2020. This is the third time the Brexit deadline has been extended.
Will Johnson get his majority?
Will Leo Varadkar and Donald Tusk go along with Johnson's Brexit plan, including treatment of the Irish border?
Will Brexit happen on 31 January?
Stay tuned.
