Although Britons will be able to visit Schengen Zone countries visa-free post-Brexit, beginning in 2021 they like the citizens of 61 other visa-free countries will have to pay the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) fee of 7 euro every 3 years.

Reasons for the European Commission putting this new control into place include the European migrant crisis and terrorism concerns.

ETIAS will apply to anyone aged 18 to 70 from a visa-free non-EU country who visits the EU for business, tourism, medical or transit-related reasons for up to 90 days.

In the case of UK citizens, availability of visa-free travel to the EU under ETIAS is expected to be contingent on similar, reciprocal treatment for EU citizens visiting the UK.

The ETIAS application form will ask for passport information and also criminal record and medical information, and could take up to 4 weeks to process.
