A Consultation concluded by the Edinburgh City Council has found that 90% of Edinburgh residents and 77% of Edinburgh businesses favor the imposition of a Transient Visitor Levy (TVL) - the first tourist tax to be imposed by any UK city.
A Council spokesperson said in a statement:
"The council has taken the view that an Edinburgh TVL is necessary and an appropriate way to secure future investment in the tourism industry and, in order to support the council to manage the impact of that success upon our services."
TVL would be £2/day, maximum £14.
The proposed tax requires the approval of the Scottish government.
