According to British sources close to the situation, the EU has rejected Theresa May's proposal in regard to when and how the UK would exit from any temporary customs union with the EU. UK hardliners want unilateral control of the end date, but EU officials adamantly oppose that plan over concern that it could result in a hard Ireland-NI border post-Brexit.
And the NI DUP, whose support Ms. May needs to stay in power, continue to oppose Brexit going forward under current conditions of uncertainty.
Prospects for a planned November EU-UK summit look iffy.
