A new Failte Ireland survey of hoteliers finds that 61% of Dublin hotels and 60% of border-county hotels have seen fewer UK visitors in 2017.
Failte Ireland advises focusing on North American and continental European markets (e.g., USA, Germany), inducing visitors to travel more widely within Ireland and extending the tourist season.
Finance Minister (ex-Tourism Minister) Paschal Donohoe's 2018 budget includes 9.6M euro for improvements to roads and public transport, and 112M euro for destination marketing, both of which expenditures should be helpful to achieving what Failte Ireland wants to accomplish. But 9.6M euro for transport projects sounds a little light to me, for facilitating foreigners finding their way uneventfully into remote parts of Ireland.
