Failte Ireland reports that in 2015 Irish residents took 7.5 million trips within the Republic (+2% from 2014), and spent 1.53B euro (+5%).
Primary domestic marketing campaigns for 2015 were Discover Ireland (general coverage) and promotion of the Wild Atlantic Way. In 2016 these are continuing, with the addition of campaigns promoting Dublin and Ireland's Ancient East.
Other highlights of the report:
- 58% of Irish residents took at least one domestic holiday trip in 2015
- The South West region was most popular (22% of trips)
- 46% booked at least 3 weeks in advance
- 52% booked online
- 74% were satisfied with value for money received, 44% very satisfied
- 96% reported overall satisfaction with their holiday.
